What Safety Gate is

Safety Gate is the European Union rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. It enables national authorities and the European Commission to share information quickly about products that pose a risk.

National market-surveillance authorities notify dangerous products and the measures taken. The Commission circulates that information to the other participating countries.

What Safety Gate publishes

The public portal provides access to alerts submitted by national market-surveillance authorities. Alerts describe the product, the identified risk and notified measures to prevent or restrict its marketing or use.

Depending on the case, a record may also provide images and information about businesses, countries, sales channels, additional measures or updates.

Scope and coverage

The system concerns dangerous non-food products and connects participating countries with the European Commission. It covers different types of risk associated with those products.

Each alert reflects information and measures notified for a specific case. Records do not all contain the same fields, and an alert does not imply an identical measure in every country.

Where published by the notifying authority, alerts may include:

category, product, brand, model or codes
risk description and related standards
notifying country and country of origin
mandatory or voluntary measures
