RASFF
Follow-ups
- fupAdditionalInfo
- Following notifications 2026.1000 and 2026.1021 concerning the detection of aflatoxin B1 in basmati rice from India, a review of the analytical reports reveals a result of 2.1 ± 0.8 µg/kg for aflatoxin B1 in both cases. Given the stated measurement uncertainty, this result indicates that the actual concentration of aflatoxin B1 in the consignment may range between 1.3 and 2.9 µg/kg. In accordance with EU regulations, the maximum permitted level for aflatoxin B1 in rice is 2 µg/kg. As the result of 1.3 µg/kg is below this limit, and considering the principles of measurement uncertainty, the consignment may reasonably be considered compliant with EU regulations. It is therefore requested that both notifications be withdrawn, or the nature of the notification be reviewed and revised accordingly.
