    Request for withdrawal, taking into account the status of this food following the request to modify the entry for the fruit of the species Benincasa hispida Cogn. in the Novel Food Catalogue as a non‑novel food, please note that on 6 March of this year the European Commission proceeded to amend the Novel Food Catalogue for the fruit of the plant species Benincasa hispida Cogn., which is now listed as a non‑novel food (https://ec.europa.eu/food/food-feed-portal/screen/novel-food-catalogue/search). This indicates that the product was used for human consumption to a significant degree within the Union before 15 May 1997. Therefore, it is not considered “novel” within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on novel foods, and its placing on the market is not subject to prior authorisation under that Regulation.
