According to Resolution No. 1/2024 of the Committee on food Supplements of September 10, 2024, Chelidonium majus L. (celandine herb, greater celandine, greater celandine, greater celandine) is a pharmacopoeial plant described in, among others, the European Pharmacopoeia. The plant in question is included on the German list (BVL) as a substance not recommended for use in food and has the category of a medicinal product. Chelidonium majus L. is listed in Czech law on the list of plants prohibited in food production. This plant is listed in the EFSA compendium of botanical substances that have been found to contain naturally occurring components that may pose a risk to human health if used in food production (benzophenanthridine alkaloids, e.g. chelidonine, chelerythrine, sanguinarine, protopine, and protoberberine derivatives, e.g. berberine, stylopine, coptisine).
