Unofficial translation: The following risks are listed for Lactuca virosa L. in the 2014 version of the BVL and federal states' list of substances: persistent irritation of the skin and mucous membranes, sedative properties similar to opium, visual disturbances, headaches, sweating, dizziness, drowsiness, increased respiratory and heart rates. Poisonous lettuce (Lactuca virosa) is listed in the BVL and federal states' list of substances in category List A (substances not recommended for use as food or food ingredients due to known risks) and in Annex II, Chapter B31 of the Austrian Food Code (open list of plants or plant parts not used in the manufacture of tea-like products). The sample is therefore assessed as unsafe within the meaning of Article 14(1) of Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002.
