According to the Novel Food Catalog, Artemisia annua L. has no history of consumption by humans in EU countries prior to May 15, 1997. Before it can be placed on the market, the procedure specified in Regulation (EU) (EU) 2015/2283 of November 25, 2015, on novel foods must be carried out before it can be placed on the market. According to Resolution No. 1/2024 of the Dietary Supplements Team of September 10, 2024, of the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate, Chelidonium majus L. is a plant material that is not permitted for use in dietary supplements. The plant is included in the German list (BVL) as a substance not recommended for use in food and classified as a medicinal product. Chelidonium majus L. is listed in Czech legislation as a plant prohibited in food production. The plant is listed in the EFSA compendium of botanical substances in which naturally occurring components have been found that may pose a risk to human health if used in food production.
