Pyrrolizidine alkaloids can cause liver damage and show genotoxic and carcinogenic effects. Therefore the regulation (EU) 2023/915 establishes maximum values for the presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in food products. The value set for dried oregano was found to be surpassed for this consignment.
