- Notification of the Children's hospital of Zurich: Hospitalization of a 16 months old child with an overdose of Vitamin D. Child is in intensiv care unit with the following symptoms: arterial hypertension, hypercaclemia, facial paralysis and renal insufficiency, nephrocalcinosis caused by Vitamin D. Cause: the parents did NOT use the food supplement according to the instruction (1 drop every five days), but applied about 3 drops every second to 3rd day (about 16'000 IE, according to 400 µg Vitamin D) during 4 months. The parents used a product with a similar dosage regimen, but with a lower Vitamin D content (about 400 IE, 10 µg / day) before. This product was prescribed by their pediatrician. Afterwards they bought the food supplement NatuGena 5000 with a much higher dosage online. They were not aware that the Vitamin D content is much higher.
