During a control at a Belgian FBO, the beverage “VODY” was found to be placed on the market. This product contains both vodka (alcohol) and added caffeine. According to Belgian legislation (Royal Decree of 1 March 1998), the addition of caffeine is only permitted in flavoured non-alcoholic beverages, with a maximum limit of 320 mg/l. Adding caffeine to alcoholic beverages is not allowed in Belgium. The VODY products are therefore not compliant with Belgian legislation and are considered illegally placed on the market.
