Werden diese plötzlich durch ein Jodüberangebot wie durch extrem jodhaltige Algenprodukte aktiviert, kann es zu einer Überfunktion (jodinduzierten Hyperthyreose) der Schilddrüse mit lebensbedrohlichen Auswirkungen auf den Stoffwechsel kommen. /// As a result of chronic iodine deficiency, lumps may form in the thyroid gland, especially in older people. If these are suddenly activated by an excess of iodine, as can occur with seaweed products with an extremely high iodine content, this can lead to an overactive thyroid (iodine-induced hyperthyroidism) with life-threatening effects on the metabolism.
