CBD oils and CBD flowers are sold and recommended for oral consumption on French web shop. Currently, only hemp seed and some of its derivatives (e.g. hemp seed oil) have a proven history of consumption as food before 15 May 1997 in the European Union. But no significant history of use as a food ingredient has yet been demonstrated for hemp extracts and CBD extracts. They are thus considered novel foods and are consequently banned on that basis. The flowers of Cannabis sativa L. do not meet the definition of food (general food law EU 178/2002), as they appear in the list of psychotropic substances (international convention). Consequently, their use as food is prohibited on that basis. In addition, we also found non-authorized health claims about CBD on the web shop.
