The food supplement contains calcium disodium EDTA. This substance is also an additive, which is not allowed in food supplements (E 385). According to the quantity and description, the substance is not added for technological reasons, which means that it is not an additive. Calcium disodium EDTA is mentioned as a substance used to treat serious lead poisoning. Given the fact that one form of EDTA (Ferric Sodium EDTA) authorised as a novel food by the Commission's decision, other forms of EDTA should also go through the authorisation process. In addition, the amount of calcium disodium EDTA in the recommended daily dose (1800 mg/day) significantly exceeds the upper limit (75 mg/day) for the use of the permitted form of EDTA as a novel food.
