The product contains live strains of Akkermansia muciniphila. This is not authorized as a Novel Food, because not included in the EU list from Art. 6 of Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470. To clarify, Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/168 included Akkermansia muciniphila in the EU novel food list, but only in pasteurized form. The product in question does not contain pasteurized A. muciniphila, but live cells. Moreover, there is also a limit on the amount of cells that can be safely consumed per day. Secondly, the product does not comply with labelling legislation as they do not mention in accordance with Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/168, that the product should only be consumed by adults, excluding pregnant and breastfeeding women.
