According to the analytical findings, nucleic acid (DNA) sequences characteristic of genetically modified papaya were detectable in the "Green Papaya" sample. Among others, sequences from Thai lines of Papaya Ringspot Virus (PRSV) were detected, which indicates that it is a genetically modified papaya developed in Thailand with resistance to this plant virus. Genetically modified papaya is not approved in the EU. Nor is there an application for approval or a favourable opinion on the risk assessment according to Article 47 of Regulation 1829/2003.
