According to Preliminary Note 13 of Recommendation XXXVI of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) on paper, board and cardboard for food contact, a release of primary aromatic amines must not be detectable on the finished product with a summary detection limit of 10 µg/kg food or food simulant. For primary aromatic amines which, like o-anisidine, are classified as carcinogens of categories 1A and 1B according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, there is an additional requirement that their release as a single substance must not be detectable with a detection limit of 2 µg/kg food or food simulant. The requirements are not fulfilled by the tested sample. It must therefore be assumed that, as a result of the use of the muffin tins, an unacceptable change in the prepared food within the meaning of Article 3 (1) (b) of Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004 can be brought about.
