- Under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act , teether fillings must not contain any living microorganisms. Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that the liquid filling in production code K1920ALP01 is contaminated with the bacteria Sphingomonas sp . Additional testing by TOMY International, Inc. determined production code E1920ALP01 is contaminated with the bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis. These bacteria are usually harmless but may cause an infection in children with weakened immune systems, if the toy is punctured and the liquid filling is ingested. As of November 30 th , 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada .
