Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that these products do not meet the Canadian safety requirements for expansion gates. Specifically, the surface coating applied on the metal tube of the gates contains barium in excess of allowable limits. As of January 10, 2020, the company has received no report of consumer incidents or injuries in Canada.
Recommendations
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled expansion gates and contact Elfe Juvenile Products for a repair kit. For more information, consumers may contact Elfe Juvenile Products toll free at 1-800-667-8184 between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm Eastern Time Monday to Friday or by email. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
