The DVFA have received a registration of a food supplement with the plant ingredient, Ashwagandha. This plant is assessed by The Danish Technical University (DTU) in 2020 where it was found that the root or extracts of Ashwagandha can have a negative effect on the thyroid hormones. Thus, food supplements containing Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) are not allowed to be marketed to Danish consumers, according to article 14 (1 and 2) of regulation 178/2002.
