- The bottom enclosure or base plate of the ECU is faulty, which can cause an internal electrical short circuit. A risk of burn injuries and vehicle damage as the ECU can catch fire. A risk of laceration injuries as the top enclosure of the ECU could also crack if the vehicle is in use and shoot out broken plastic materials.
